Visited by over one million annually, Lake Shawnee has been open since 1939 and was originally built as a part of the Work Progress Administration. The park is adjacent to the Lake Shawnee Golf Course south of Dornwood Park. The park offers a swimming beach, camping, a marina, and shelters for gatherings.
